Our Bostons

Al and I have two Boston Terriers who we consider our “furry babies.”  We hope for real babies some day (and by God I hope they are cuter than these two), but for now we just have “the pigs” as they are called.  Below is a picture of them; Penny is on the left and Guinness is on the right.

Penny Lane O’Brien
Penny was born in January, 2004.  She spent the first few months of her life in an abusive home.  Al rescued her when she was 7 months old, and Penny has never forgotten that.  Al will always be #1 to her.  She will cuddle with me, but I think it is because she knows that I control the food.  Penny is highly intelligent.  I’m convinced that if she had thumbs , she would take our car, drive off into the sunset, and live in a cave with her down comforter, a jar of peanut butter, and gravy.  She is very bipolar in her energy.  She can play fetch for hours (even injuries don’t slow her down…”I didn’t need that dew claw anyway.”); however, during the day, she does. not. move.  If we come home early from work, she gives us a look like, “You are home early and are encroaching on my beauty sleep…this is NOT on the schedule.”
Penny’s likes: down comforters, not moving all day, groaning when forced to move, playing fetch forever, Frisbees, and peanutbutter
Penny’s dislikes: rain, moving when she doesn’t want to, having to share the bed with us
Nicknames: Pen Monster, P, Penelope, Pig Pen
Guinness Stout Weber
Guinness was born in February 2007.  We got him from a wonderful breeder who said he was the most outgoing of his litter…boy was he right.  Guinness LOVES everybody.  Anyone Guinness meets is his new favorite.  He is a sweet, sweet boy, but just isn’t very bright.  He can’t figure out how to jump up on the bed.  He’s done it several times, but only when he is chasing Penny…so he doesn’t realize that he’s done it.  Penny knows that he doesn’t know how to jump up on the bed.  So if we put him up there and he is bugging her (“hi, is that your butt??”), she will jump down…he’ll follow…and she’ll jump back up on the bed with this look of, “what a dumbass—works every time.”  We are convinced that Guinness has a switch blade because he DESTROYS any stuffed toy we give him.  On the rare occasion that The Pigs are given a stuffed toy, Guinness kills it immediately, and Penny gives him this look like, "This is why we don't have nice things."
Guinness’s likes: people, Penny, other dog’s rear ends, people, running, did I mention people?
Guinness’s dislikes: the vet, car rides, getting his nails trimmed (he doesn’t trust me around sharp objects…weird), tennis balls, ripping fluffy toys apart and bringing you the squeaker (“look ma, I found the heart!!)
Nicknames: G, G-man, Asshole, Snugglesaurus
